Mobile ESPN, carried on a specially designed black-and-red Sanyo handsets, offers real-time sports content such as game highlights, scores and fantasy team coverage.
The retail price of the phone is $199, and monthly plan costs range from $34.99 for 100 minutes to $224.99 for 4000 minutes through Sprint's high-speed Evolution Data Optimized service.
All plans include ESPN sports content, for which users are not charged extra, an ESPN spokeswoman said.
Additional handset models will be launched throughout 2006.
ESPN plans to support the launch with a 60-second Super Bowl commercial featuring more than 20 athletes, including New Yorks Knicks basketball player Stephon Marbury, women's professional basketball star Lisa Leslie, and major league baseball pitcher David Wells.
